At The Parklane Foundation, we believe in creating opportunities that bring people together, improve wellbeing, and build stronger communities. Our Inclusive Golf programme at Leeds Golf Centre is a powerful example of how sport can be used to transform lives - making golf accessible, welcoming, and meaningful for everyone.
Why Inclusive Golf Matters
Golf has long been seen as an exclusive sport, often out of reach for many communities. But at its core, golf offers so much more than a game, it provides a space for connection, movement, and mental wellbeing.
Our Inclusive Golf initiative is about changing perceptions and opening doors. It’s designed to support people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly those who may face barriers to participation. By doing so, we’re helping to create a healthier, fairer, and more connected Leeds.
This programme directly supports key local priorities, including improving health and wellbeing, encouraging inclusive growth, connecting people with outdoor spaces, and creating opportunities for young people across the city.
Putting People First: Our Priority Groups
Through a series of inclusive, themed monthly sessions, we are working with a wide range of communities to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported.
We are creating tailored experiences for:
By focusing on these groups, we’re not just delivering a programme - we’re creating opportunities for people to feel included, valued, and empowered.
Creating Real Impact
The impact of Inclusive Golf goes far beyond the course.
Participants benefit from improved physical health, increased confidence, and better mental wellbeing through regular activity. Just as importantly, the programme creates a sense of belonging, bringing people together, reducing isolation, and building lasting connections across communities.
We are also challenging long-standing stereotypes around golf, showing that it can be a truly inclusive and community-focused activity. By opening up these spaces, we’re helping to reshape perceptions and make the sport accessible to all.
A Programme Designed for Inclusion
Our year-round programme is carefully structured to meet a wide range of needs, with support from trained PGA coaches, community volunteers, and partner organisations across Leeds.
Sessions include:
Each session is built around our core values: inclusion, accessibility, and community.
Measuring Success
We are committed to delivering meaningful, measurable impact.
In our first year, we aim to engage over 200 participants across five key groups, delivering monthly sessions throughout the year. Success will be measured through participation levels, wellbeing improvements, and real-life stories from those involved.
By capturing feedback and sharing experiences, we can continue to learn, grow, and ensure the programme delivers lasting benefits.
Working Together: Our Partners
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. This programme is supported by a network of organisations across Leeds, including health and disability groups, schools, community and faith organisations, and local authorities.
These partnerships allow us to reach those who need support most and ensure our sessions are relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Looking Ahead: A Lasting Legacy
Inclusive Golf is not just a short-term initiative, it’s part of our long-term commitment to tackling inequality and improving wellbeing across Leeds.
By building a sustainable model, we aim to create a lasting legacy that continues to support communities for years to come. With the right support and partnerships, this programme will grow into a permanent, accessible space where everyone can enjoy the benefits of golf.
